Do you need a photo for an Indian passport?

The answer depends on where and how you apply.

Applying at a PSK or POPSK

Passport Seva’s instruction booklet says a photograph is not required for applications submitted at a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra. Your photo is usually captured there.

Children below four

The Passport Seva application steps say to carry a recent 4.5 × 3.5 cm passport-size photograph with a white background for applicants below four years of age. Check the current appointment instructions.

Other application routes

Overseas missions and other submission routes can have different requirements. Do not assume that one size or upload rule applies everywhere. Read the instructions for the office handling your application.

Passport-size is also a print format

Many forms and institutions ask for a passport-size photograph. Our 35 × 45 mm preset prepares that print format; it does not mean every passport application needs it.

Requirements change. Check the official instructions for your exact document, age and submission route before applying.
